Located at the top of the Baja Peninsula, Cabo San Lucas is a paradise recognized for the contrast between its beaches and deserts. It is also known for it is deep sea fishing. Cabo San Lucas is the second biggest city in the Baja Peninsula and attracts the most tourists in the area. Along with the close town of San José del Cabo, both places are referred to as “Los Cabos”.
Since the 1980s, huge investment in real estate and tourism has converted the town into an exclusive resort city as famous for its landscapes and beaches as for the high end visitor. With a tropical weather makes deep-sea fishing, golf, and water sports among the most popular activities in Cabo. Los Cabos is home of championship golf courses, as well as Iron Man Competition.
Activities like snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing, scuba diving, and windsurfing captivate many people to Cabo San Lucas, it is also the perfect place for watching whales from November to March. The wide array of original plants and fascinating sea life makes eco-tourism very popular in Cabo San Lucas.
The Guaycura Indians lived on the southern area of the Baja Peninsula. In Central Baja, Pericu Indians held up the first Spanish caravans that landed in La Paz in the 1530s. The Spanish were in search of treasure, pearls and resources. Led by Hernan Cortés, the Spanish explored the area, but left the peninsula after a few years. During the heyday of Spanish colonialism in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, English and Dutch pirates found the Baja Peninsula to be the perfect base from which to attack Spanish ships carrying Mexican silver. Sir Francis Drake and Thomas Cavendish are a few of those famous buccaneers that frequented Baja Sur.
CABO SAN LUCAS BEACHES
